From examining eyes to guarding lives, Sam brings a unique perspective to our pool deck! A retired optometrist with service in the U.S. Air Force and VA, Sam joined our KRC lifeguard team two years ago alongside his wife Andrea.
Fun fact: Sam and Andrea both held lifeguard certifications back in 1978 when they guarded at Ohio State University. Talk about coming full circle! They decided to recertify and join KRC to stay active and contribute to our amazing facility.
At 66, Sam loves the energetic atmosphere created by his younger colleagues and enjoys greeting our regular swimmers every morning. His proudest moment? Successfully completing the rigorous certification process, including the challenging deep-water rescues!
Sam’s story shows it’s never too late to dive into a new adventure. Whether he’s scanning the pool or sharing stories about unexpected connections with coworkers (like discovering their kids were cross-country teammates!), Sam exemplifies the wonderful community spirit here at KRC!
