Carlos Barberena is a printmaker best known for his satirical relief prints and the use of images from pop culture. Originally from Nicaragua and now based in Chicago, Barberena has exhibited throughout the world, notably creating special print installations in Costa Rica, Estonia, France, Mexico, Nicaragua, Spain and the US. As well as being a full-time artist, Barberena is also an educator and speaker, and recently was a panelist at the national printmaking conference. Currently Barberena lives and works in Chicago, where he runs the printmaking projects: Bandolero Press & La Calaca Press. He is also a member of the Instituto Grafico de Chicago.

On Friday, May 16, Barberena will host an artist talk at Rosewood Theatre, sharing insights into his creative process. This event is free and open to all ages. Then, on Saturday, May 17, and Sunday, May 18, Barberena will lead a two-day workshop, where participants will explore his techniques firsthand. Learn how to carve and print from a linoleum block onto both fine art print paper and textiles. This workshop is open to all experience levels (ages 16+).
