Happy Friday! Today’s featured fitness patron is Dan Busse, who credits the strength and health he gained from working out at KFWC with helping him overcome cancer and stay strong through his treatments. We’re so happy you choose to work out with us, Dan, and congratulations on all you’ve achieved!
Tell us about yourself and how long you have been a member of the Kettering Fitness and Wellness Center.
I have belonged to KFWC since I moved here in 2007. I am a retired teacher, and in December of 2020, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Since I have always been healthy and have worked out for many years, I was in good health, which helped me recover from treatments I would need to have. Lifting and bodybuilding changed my life. I used the skills I learned in all areas of my life.
What personal obstacles have you overcome and how did our fitness facilities help you through?
The biggest obstacle I overcame was the cancer treatment. Working out for so long helped me fight this. I knew I was losing strength and I knew I had to keep going to the gym. I talked to some of the trainers like Ben and Thomas, and they helped encourage me. I’m also very grateful for the patrons and staff of KFWC. They kept motivating me, and they are like my second family.
Do you have any personal health and fitness goals, won a competition, etc.?
My goal is to continue building my endurance and strength. I also want to limit my stress and keep my positive attitude.
Is there anything else you would like to add for the highlight story?
Life has thrown me many curveballs. Through it all, I have maintained good health, a hopeful attitude and a daily regimen of spiritual well-being. There is a lot more living I want to do and KFWC continues to help me do that every single day. Never, ever give up! If I can overcome these obstacles, anyone can!
