Happy Friday! Today’s featured fitness patron, Stacy Greene, overcame a battle with breast cancer and is now five years cancer free! “Coming here to work out when I could, helped me to release the fears and stresses I was under,” Stacy explained. “And it’s currently helping with normal stresses everyone is going through.” We’re so honored to be a part of your wellness journey, Stacy!
Tell us about yourself and how long you have been a member of the Kettering Fitness and Wellness Center.
I am 44 years old and work as an administrative assistant at Community Tissue Services for 5 years. I have been a member of Kettering Fitness and Wellness Center on and off for 4 years. Since 2022 to 2023, I have been concentrating more on my health and slowly reaching my goal to be more physically fit.
What personal obstacles have you overcome and how did our fitness facilities help you through?
My personal obstacle of being diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 38 years old. Coming here to work out when I could, helped me to release the fears and stresses I was under and is currently helping with normal stresses everyone is going through. I am now 5 years cancer free.
Do you have any personal health and fitness goals, won a competition, etc.?
Personal health and fitness goals are, of course, lose the weight I have gained throughout the years. Doing this has helped me to move better without pain. The training has helped me build back my strength to do everyday tasks. I am proud to say I did my first Hot Chocolate 5K run in Columbus, Ohio and received a medal of completion and did five extra miles for going the wrong way!!
Is there anything else you would like to add for the highlight story?
I want to give gratitude and thanks to my family and friends that never gave up on me along with all my doctors and nurses at Kettering Cancer Center and all Kettering hospital facilities. When I was at my lowest, they gave me hope. Also to the Pink Ribbon Girls that gave everyone a place to come together with other survivors and let us know we are not alone in this battle with cancer. And, to Maple Tree that helped any cancer patients that needed a trainer to teach them how to exercise before, during, and after treatments and surgeries.
