Cathy Magness, a 67-year-old Kettering resident of 40 years, began her fitness journey at the Kettering Recreation Complex (KRC) after retiring in June 2023. Despite being self-described as an “exercise virgin” with no prior gym experience, Cathy took the brave step to work with a personal trainer.
Overcoming Challenges
Facing morbid obesity and chronic diseases, Cathy found motivation through her trainer, Larry Fox, and the diverse, supportive community at KRC. “I knew the only way I would stick to a program was to work with a trainer who would keep me accountable, and Larry has done that,” Cathy explains.
Celebrating Progress
One year into her training, Cathy has lost almost 30 pounds and discovered a newfound enjoyment in working out. “I now walk with my head held high and feel so much better about myself, physically and mentally,” she shares.
Looking Forward
Cathy aims to continue her weight loss journey, increase her KRC visits, and focus on improving strength and balance. Her story proves it’s never too late to start a fitness journey. To those considering joining KRC, Cathy advises: “Take that one baby step to come and see.”
We celebrate her dedication as she inspires others to achieve their fitness goals!
